Case - Neuromancer by Miles-Johnston Case - Neuromancer by Miles-Johnston
A portrait of the main character 'Case' from the book Neuromancer by William Gibson.

Maybe I should explain some of the symbolism. My favorite part of the book is the exotic descriptions of the way the human mind processes the vast constellations of data in cyberspace into a semi tangible space in the 'infinite non-space of the mind', basically this explains most of the swirly void-type shit. The chinese character is both symbolic of Case's location at the beginning of the novel (a sort of futuristic China known as Chiba) and is the character Li, the neu-confusion meaning. It is a concept used to describe the seeming order in non symmetric, non repetative, totally chaotic naturally forming systems. For example clouds, or the grain in wood. It is hard to explain exactly why there seems to be a balance or order in these systems, but this idea can be called 'Li' (if I understand it right, I'm just parroting an Alan Watts talk). The idea was this could be symbolic of the way data seems to form giant constellations in cyberspace within the book. The white cube is the rogue AI WINTERMUTE and the girl is Molly, two other central characters, hope you like it!

This is pure class. It's also reminiscent of sci-fi movie poster art from the time when the book was published.

This could (and should) damn well be the cover for the next edition/reprint of Neuromancer. Really fantastic looking stuff.

Niiiiice! Back in school there was a student film production of this, I worked on the Visual Special Effects (ha) and trying to make Molly's ocular implants was insane.
Needless to say, all that came out of it was a nicely worded letter from Gibson's lawyers saying "You can't make this".

Awesome. Really awesome. And the best 'fanart' (not sure if it is the right word here) of Case that I've ever seen.

Awesome!  I'm thinking about doing a duel portrait of Berry Rydell and Chevette Washington from Gibson's Virtual Light.  This is inspiring.

So glad you finished this. The symbolism is great. It looks like it could have been drawn in the 80's as well, like it could have been made at the same time the book came out. Also I like the way you did Molly's lenses.

Awesome as always Miles. Got a question for you...that hexagon at the top, are you using any sort of masking frisket or something of that nature? Your edges are just WICKED clean, and I cannot for the life of me keep that with graphite.

Sorry to be picky but ... Chiba is a prefecture (kinda like a district or county) of Japan, not a futurisic variation on China.
